Fasting Mimicking Diet – During this Navratri(2 min read)

I’ve always been very keen on maintaining good health. Every since moving to Austin, I’ve been experimenting. I went vegetarian for almost 8 years, until 2 years ago. I do not eat a lot of meat but I do enjoying eating meat. I did not see a huge benefit of being a strict vegetarian so I resumed eating chicken, lamb, pork, fish etc again

During the last decade, I also took up fasting and I can say fasting (calorific restriction, particularly) is amazing for you. I thought I could never fast. However, over the years I took up water fasting (way before it was cool or fashionable). My protocol had been to simply quit eating at 6pm on Sunday and then only resume eating Tues morning. I didnt get there overnight, but that has been my usual for a while now. I have at times gone from Sunday to Thursday – and that takes some effort. The goal here isnt to lose weight but specifically to flush your body of toxins and give it the time and opportunity to self-repair.

A New experiment starts today

I have read known about Dr. Valter Longos work on the Fasting Mimicking diet and read his book as well. Becuase I’m a Trojan, this work out of the USC Longevity institute has always been fascinating for me. This week, I’m going to be incorporating FMD into my Navratri fasting (for the first time ever) and I’ll try to also keep logging actively about my experience over the next few days.

Navratri fasting…

Today is the first day of Chaitra Navratri (Thu, Mar 19, 2026 – Fri, Mar 27, 2026) – a period of fasting that aligns extremely well with the change in seasons. While there is a religious reason to Navratri fasting, I see the scientific value in preparing your body and flushing out toxins as the seasons change.

This time I’m going to be experimenting with FMD (Fasting Mimicking Diet) – I’ve gained some weight in the past few months. This aligns very well with the Navratri fasting and I’ll be making notes and giving updates here.

Over the long term this is all ‘baby steps’ towards my vision to CentoViva. Read more about my CentoViva Project.
